Happy New Year

01/03/2010 20:15

I'm finally getting around to my new year's post.  I guess one of my resolutions should be punctuality, but who has time for that?  New Year's Eve was pretty uneventful, much like our entire weekend.  I came home, exhausted from work and was bombarded with questions regarding fireworks- if and when we were going to shoot them- since it was cloudy and drizzling.   First, we had to eat dinner, and Wesley let the children plan the menu.  This meant we feasted on popcorn, little smokies, chocolate donuts, and cheese cubes.  I had a salad.

Then it was time for fireworks.   Victoria was helping Wesley light them as Trevor watched from inside the car.  Sophie, meanwhile was cradled in my arms, shaking from fear.  I had to take her inside and put her to bed.  Finally after much time spent convincing Trevor that a sparkler would not catch him on fire, he agreed to hold one. Then, Trevor and Victoria proceeded to chase one another around the yard using the sparklers as weapons.

At this point, there were still about 4 hours until midnight, and we had foolishly promised the kids they could stay up.  I was fading quickly, since I had worked a full day, and the kids were already insane.  Somehow we survived those hours without killing anyone, and about 10 minutes before the ball dropped, we pried the kids away from the tv in the bedroom, so we could ring in 2010 as a family.  There was some griping an moaning involved, but we kissed and hugged as the new year rang in.

This sweet scenario was followed by the ever present battle of the bedtime.  Even though the kids had been allowed to stay up 4 hours past their regular bed time, they still fought and whined when we told them to hit the sack at approximately 12:05.  So, we rang in the new year in the typical Seigler family manner- with lots of yelling and screaming.
