Q. I'm 100 pounds over weight. I've tried everything and just want to give up. I'm tired of not being able to breath (sic) or tie my shoe. I feel miserable! I'm thinking about having a gastric bypass surgery. What are the requirements for a candidate who wants this type of procedure? (Originally submitted to www.shapefit.com)
A. Dear Fatty,
Really? You've tried everything, and you're STILL 100 pounds overweight?! Have you tried putting down the cheeseburger and shake and maybe picking up and apple and drinking some water? How about walking up a flight of stairs instead of taking the elevator? Maybe back away from the buffet after 2 trips. I'm just saying, you probably haven't tried everything, yet, and it seems you're just looking for the easy way out. And, don't even try to blame your thyroid for this. Try cutting your calories to 1500-1800 a day, drink 64 plus ounces of water, and exercise 30 min per day most days of the week. If you need support, join Weight Watchers or create your own group of co-workers, friends, and/or family that can help you get through this. Give it a solid 30 days, and see where you are then. I'd be willing to bet you'll feel a ton better and have dropped a few inches and pounds. You're welcome.
